First of all we know what is RTE? What is RTE? Article 21A has been included in the Constitution of India (86th Amendment, 2002). Under this, there is a provision to provide free and compulsory education to all children in the age group of 6 to 14 years in the nearest government school. 

Free education here means that no money is taken from the parents of the children for the school fees, uniform and books of the child. At the same time, under this Act, 25 percent of children are enrolled in private schools without any fee. 


Economically Weaker Section i.e. Economically Weaker and Disadvantage Groups (eg – Scheduled Castes (SC) – Tribes (ST) and Orphans) have been included in this category (1) (2) (3). Now in the later part of the article you will know what are the main features of RTE. The salient features of RTE we can understand it through the following points (1) : Free and compulsory education will be given to the child from the age of 6 to 14 years in the government school of his neighborhood


If a child of 6 years of age or more is not admitted to school for any reason or has not completed his primary education, he shall be admitted to a class appropriate to his age and shall also be given special training. School teachers must have sufficient degree and experience to teach. Within five years they must obtain a substantial professional degree or else they may even be expelled from school. No child shall be detained, expelled or taken forward in the board examination until the child's primary education is completed. The school infrastructure will have to be improved every three years. A certificate will be given to the children who will complete their primary education.

 The financial burden will have to be borne by both the state and central government. Know further which children are eligible under the RTE Act. Eligibility To Apply Under RTE – Eligibility To Avail Admission Under The RTE Act Some information about eligibility to get admission in school under RTE Act is given below (5) : This act is for 6 to 14 year old children . Those who come from economically weaker section can fill the application for 25 percent reserved seat in private school. A family whose annual income is 3.5 lakh or less can apply for seats under the RTE Act. Orphans, homeless, children with special needs, transgender, HIV infected children and children of migrant workers are eligible for school admission under the RTE Act. Also, children belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe category are also eligible to apply under RTE. All of them fall under the Disadvantage category.
