The bill was approved by the cabinet on 2 July 2009. Then it was approved in the Rajya Sabha on 20 July 2009 and in the Lok Sabha on 4 August 2009. This Act was implemented in the whole of India on 1 April 2010 except Jammu and Kashmir.A child in the age group of 6 to 14 years will be given free and compulsory education in a government school in his/her neighbourhood.


The age of the child will be recorded on the basis of his/her documents at the time of admission in the school. If the child does not have an age certificate, in the absence of which his/her admission will not be stopped.There is a need to improve the quality of education.If a child of 6 years of age or more is unable to attend school or complete his primary education for any reason, 


he shall be admitted to a class appropriate to his age and shall also be given special training.School teachers must have sufficient degree and experience to teach. Within five years they must obtain a substantial professional degree or else they may be expelled from school.No child shall be detained, expelled or take forward in the board examination until the child's primary education is completed.The school infrastructure will have to be improved every three years.

A certificate will be given to the children who complete their primary education.The financial burden will have to be borne by both the state and central government.Know further which children are eligible under the RTE Act.Those who come from economically weaker section can fill the application for 25 percent reserved seat in private school.A family whose annual income is 3.5 lakh or less can apply for seats under the RTE Act.

Orphans, homeless, children with special needs, transgender, HIV infected children and children of migrant workers are eligible for school admission under the RTE Act. Also, children belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe category are also eligible to apply under RTE. All of them fall under the Disadvantage category.Government ID of parents – Driving License, Voter ID, Aadhar Card, Ration Card, Birth Certificate or Passport. Child ID – This is not limited to the child's birth certificate, passport and Aadhar card. Parents can submit any and all official documents of the child. Caste Certificate – Caste certificate is also an important document for RTE admission. Income certificate from Revenue Department of India. If the child needs any special medical facility, you will be provided with the appropriate certificate by the health department. In case of homeless children or children of migrant labourers, an affidavit should be prepared, which is issued from the Department of Labor, Department of Education and Department of Women and Child Development. Passport size photograph of the child. If the child is an orphan, both parents must have a death certificate. All applications must be submitted before the last date for admission. The last date for RTE admission is normally between the second and last week of April every year. Know about the process of RTE Admission in the later part of this article.
