The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has made some changes in the syllabus of History, Civics and Hindi for class 12th. Lessons related to the Mughal Empire have been dropped from the history books, while some poems and paragraphs have also been dropped from the Hindi book. As per the updated syllabus, the chapters on the rulers of the Mughal period and their history have been changed to Themes of Indian History. Excerpted from the book Part II. Lessons like 'American dominance in world politics and the Cold War era' have been completely removed from the civics book. Also, the book on politics in independent India talks about 'the rise of mass movements' and 'the era of one-party dominance'. Text has been removed. 




It is pertinent to note here that under this section of the syllabus, students were being taught about Congress, Socialist,

Communist Party, Communist Party of India, Bharatiya Jana Sangh etc. According to NCERT, the change in syllabus will be applicable to all schools across the country where NCERT books are being taught. Many other boards including CBSE and Uttar Pradesh Board recognize NCERT books. These changes will be implemented from the current academic session (2023-24). Apart from the Mughal period, Firaq Gorakhpuri's Ghazal, Suryakant Tripathi Nirala's song 'Geet Gaane Do Mujhe' and Vishnu Khare's Satya, UP Board and CBSE Class 12 Hindi has been removed from the textbooks. Several chapters have also been removed from class 10th and 11th books, including chapters like 'Central Islamic Lands', 'Clash of Cultures' and 'The Industrial Revolution' 'Themes in World History'. 





Similarly, class 10th book Democratic Politics Lessons like Democracy and Diversity, Popular Struggles and Movements and Challenges to Democracy have also been removed from -2. Even before this there have been changes in syllabus The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) was established in 1961 as an autonomous body. It was established primarily to assist in the qualitative improvement of school education in India. It is also said to have played an important role in nation-building and setting narratives and ideas across the country. In the last few years, NCERT has made many changes in the content and theory of its syllabus, although it has also been criticized many times for deleting some chapters from history. However, this is not the first time that the syllabus has been changed. Also keeping in mind the focus of the Modi government on Indian culture, India Knowledge of the traditions and practices of Shivaji Maharaj, Subhash Chandra Bose, Maharana Pratap, Swami Vivekananda etc. were added to the history textbooks. Significantly, NCERT has not only revamped the textbooks, but has also revised the National Syllabus outline after 14 years on the lines of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
